Volume 8: Story

Throughout December, I’ve been highlighting the key takeaways from last month’s Become The Expert pilot masterclass. If you’ve missed any, you can find them here:

This week, we’ll cover the final module: How to use content to sell and persuade:

Most sales calls are won or lost in the discovery phase. Spend time prior to a call compiling probing questions that help get to the root of the prospect’s pain. Find their story! The difference between an obstacle (can’t afford) and an excuse (I’ll think about it) is either not building enough value (solution-driven) or urgency (pain-driven). Be proactive and identify the elephant in the room before they do to build trust and credibility. If your content isn’t connecting, you may need to tell those “wrong words” to “DIE, SCUM” (morbid, I know). Here’s the proofreading technique to make sure your work is polished and edited before sharing publicly:DIE = Describe (what you see), Interpret (what you think), Evaluate (what you feel) SCUM = Support (is there evidence), Coherence (is it clear), Unity (does it tie into a central idea), Mechanics (is it grammatically sound and formatted correctly).

Top 4 Classic Christmas Songs:

Yes, another Christmas list from a non-Christian! Each of these songs gives me a sense of nostalgia and contains a great message, to boot. And isn’t that what the season is all about?

Someday at Christmas, Stevie Wonder (1967): Can’t have this list without my favorite singer. Such powerful lyrics: “When we have found what life’s really worth, there’ll be peace on earth.” The Christmas Song, Nat King Cole (1962): What’s not to like about this? That voice, that string section. When it’s on, you can’t help but smile or hug someone. There’s No Place Like Home For The Holidays, Perry Como (1954): This one is a selection from my fiancee, a fellow old-soul. She likes how he references Pennsylvania, her native state. Do They Know It’s Christmas, Band Aid (1984): Another one with a powerful message. As a child of the 80’s, it’s also fun rewatching the music video and seeing all those iconic artists.

No matter what you celebrate, or if you celebrate, please spend this time doing what makes you happy with those you enjoy doing it with most. You’ve earned it.
